Welcome to our class overview for the term. Below you’ll find a clear summary of what we are learning across all areas of the curriculum, along with the exciting visits we have planned. Our theme this term is 'Living Things'. 

Maths

This term in Maths, children will be developing their confidence with number, data and real‑life problem‑solving. They will be learning to:

  • Read, write, order and compare numbers up to 100

  • Recognise odd and even numbers up to 100

  • Use positional vocabulary to describe position and direction

  • Recognise, order and understand the value of all coins and notes

  • Read the 12‑hour clock in both analogue and digital formats

  • Navigate a calendar using days, weeks and months

  • Extract information from lists, tables, diagrams and bar charts

  • Make comparisons using bar charts

  • Sort and classify objects using two criteria

  • Represent information in different formats

 

English

In English, we are exploring a wonderful range of books to inspire our reading and writing:

  • The Storm Whale

  • Somebody Crunched Colin

  • The Big Book of Bugs

Children will be developing their reading fluency, comprehension and creative writing skills through activities linked to these texts. We will be using colourful semantics in our Engish lessons too. 

 

Individuality

This term we are focusing on keeping ourselves safe and developing physical confidence. Children will be learning about:

  • Staying safe in different scenarios, including sun safety, water safety and staying safe around strangers

In PE, we are building a range of movement and coordination skills:

  • Understanding speed and distance

  • Developing fluency, rhythm and balance when jumping over obstacles

  • Practising different launching techniques

  • Refining running, jumping and throwing skills

  • Improving static and dynamic balance

  • Using a range of throwing and kicking skills

  • Aiming at stationary targets using different types of throws

 

Community

Through our Community learning, children will explore the world around them and how it has changed over time.

They will be learning to:

  • Name and locate continents, countries and capital cities

  • Identify the UK on a world map and globe

  • Locate places that are significant to them

  • Explore how everyday objects and lifestyles have changed through the decades

  • Recognise that beliefs are personal and show respect when discussing them

  • Identify ways in which we are similar to others

  • Learn about significant world locations linked to religious journeys such as Hajj

 

Creativity

In Creativity, children will be expressing themselves through music and art. They will be learning to:

  • Try new ideas when their first plan doesn’t work

  • Use symbols to record musical ideas

  • Create short musical patterns and phrases

  • Explore pitch using their voice and instruments

  • Use tactile and visual materials to express ideas

  • Improve control of tools and equipment

  • Look at and reflect on the work of other artists

 

Challenge

In Challenge, children will be applying practical skills, problem‑solving and scientific thinking. They will be learning to:

  • Join materials in different ways to make strong products

  • Work in a group to follow a recipe

  • Create short digital animations and videos

  • Explore living things and their habitats

  • Learn about animals, including humans, focusing on reproduction, nutrition and exercise

 

Educational Visits

We have a fantastic set of trips planned to enrich our learning this term:

  • CAFT Farm

  • The Park 
  • The Mulberry Tearooms – to visit our class namesake. 

Swimming

Swimming takes place every Friday, and we visit the Leisure Centre each week.

Please ensure your child has their full swimming kit in school on Fridays.
