Granelli 2026 - 2027

Our theme for this term is ‘Superstars’.

Pupils will begin to explore what makes themselves, their families and the people around them superstars. Pupils will learn about their own strengths, interests and achievements, recognising that everyone is special and unique. They will explore the roles of people who help us in our community, such as teachers, doctors, firefighters, police officers and other important helpers, understanding how they support and care for others.

Pupils will develop an understanding of their own families and relationships, exploring similarities and differences between families and recognising the people who are important in their lives. They will celebrate themselves as superstars by exploring their own skills, talents, likes, dislikes and things they can do independently.

Within each topic, pupils will explore music, textures, colour, light and movement linked to the theme of superstars. They will use their senses to investigate and respond to different experiences, developing curiosity and engagement through sensory activities.

Throughout the topic, pupils will focus on developing communication skills by making choices, requesting more, indicating finished, expressing preferences and sharing their likes and dislikes using their individual communication methods. Pupils will be encouraged to celebrate themselves and others, build confidence and recognise that everyone has something special that makes them a superstar.

Maths

Pupils will develop their understanding of counting, number recognition and cardinality by exploring how many objects there are and comparing groups using more, less and the same. Pupils will explore 2D and 3D shapes, learning to recognise, name and sort shapes into groups based on their properties.

English

In English this term, our class will be exploring stories linked to our overarching theme, including The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas and Me and My Family Tree by Joan Sweeney. We will use Blank level questioning and Colourful Semantics to support understanding and sentence building, while engaging all the senses to create an immersive learning experience that brings stories to life and supports communication and early writing skills

Challenge

Pupils will explore the weather and seasons, learning to recognise changes in the environment and how these affect what we wear and do. Pupils will also develop their design, making and cooking skills by planning, designing and creating a range of foods to celebrate different festivals, including Diwali and Christmas.

Community

Pupils will explore themselves and how they change and grow over time. They will learn about their families, pets and the important people around them, understanding how they support and help us to grow. Pupils will explore where they live, their homes and their local community, developing a sense of belonging and connection to the world around them.

Creativity

In Creativity, we will be exploring Music by using their bodies to create music and rhythm, experimenting with clapping, stamping, and simple movement patterns. They will build confidence through fun, practical activities that encourage self-expression and develop their sense of beat and coordination.

Individuality

Our class will be practising fundamental movements in preparation for Sports Day, as well as developing their gymnastics and ball skills through a range of engaging activities. In PSHE, we will be learning about responsibility, helping children understand how to look after their belongings, follow rules, and make positive choices.
