Hovis 2026 - 2027

Welcome back to Hovis class! Our topic this term is Superstars and the children will have lots of exciting learning opportunities based on this theme.

Children will build strong number foundations by comparing groups of objects, practising reliable counting to 5, 10, 20 and beyond, and exploring numbers up to 100. They’ll also work on number bonds to 10, simple addition and subtraction, and use practical resources to solve problems.
Our stories this term include Super Duck, Ten Little Superheroes and other seasonal stories. Children will talk about characters, retell key events, share favourite parts and enjoy sensory story sessions. We’ll also explore simple autobiographies and perform autumn poetry. Children will continue working on their personal reading targets and developing their writing through personalised learning goals.
Superheroes will inspire lots of creative learning. Pupils will explore patterns in costumes, design their own superhero, try printing techniques and decorate masks. In music, they’ll copy the pulse of songs and create simple patterns using instruments.

We’ll learn about the United Kingdom, locating it on maps and globes, naming the four countries and exploring London. In history, children will learn about important people from the past, including the Royal Family, before creating their own family trees.
Science sessions will cover the human body, magnets, healthy foods and the four seasons. In computing, children will practise moving objects on a screen and learn how technology is used for different purposes.

PE
This term includes fundamental movement skills, simple partner balances in gymnastics and early invasion-game skills. We’ll also talk about how physical activity makes us feel before and after taking part. We'll be swimming on Wednesdays this year.
PSHE
Children will learn to recognise basic emotions, explore wellbeing activities and practise simple strategies to manage feelings. We’ll also think about how others may feel differently and how feelings can change.
Life Skills
Our life-skills focus includes navigating school, taking care of belongings, practising zips and buttons, dressing appropriately, putting on shoes and understanding the routine at the end of the school day.
We are looking forward to working in partnership with you over the next school year. If you have any questions, please contact me using Class Dojo and I’ll respond as soon as possible.
