Hovis 2025 - 2026
Welcome to Hovis Class and the start of the Spring Term! We are excited to begin our new topic, “Global Warriors,” and look forward to a busy half term of learning.
English
We will be sharing stories such as Michael Recycle, Fox’s Socks and A Little Paper Caper. Children will develop their reading skills through listening, joining in and early reading. Writing activities will focus on mark-making, letter formation and communicating ideas.
Maths
In maths, children will explore size, shape and patterns. They will sort and compare objects, begin to recognise 2D and 3D shapes and use lots of mathematical language and symbols.
Challenge
Children will explore objects and the materials they are made from. They will learn to sort objects into groups based on the material and discover how materials can be changed by our actions. Finally, we will explore materials by making gloop and delicious pancakes!
Creativity
In Creativity lessons the children will explore art using recycled materials and learn about artists who reuse materials in their work and create both 2D and 3D pieces. Music lessons will include listening to African Zulu songs, expressing opinions, moving to music and exploring instruments from different cultures.
Community
Through geography, RE and PSHE, children will learn about the wider world and their place within it. They will explore weather and seasons, compare their lives with children in other countries, and learn about caring for the world. We will also discuss families, friendships and what it means to be kind, respectful and part of a community.
Individuality
We will celebrate each child’s individuality by encouraging them to express their opinions, share preferences and recognise their own strengths. Activities will support children in understanding their feelings, valuing differences and developing confidence in who they are.
PE
In PE, children will take part in gymnastics and multi-skills, developing balance, coordination and confidence through fun, active sessions.
