Religious Education (RE) at Park Lane Special School
At Park Lane, Religious Education is taught in a way that is meaningful, accessible, and enjoyable for all our pupils. Because our learners have a wide range of needs, RE is highly personalised and delivered through sensory experiences, structured routines, and communication‑rich activities.
Pupils explore different beliefs, festivals, and traditions through practical, hands‑on learning. This may include sensory stories, music, objects of reference, simple rituals, and themed activities linked to celebrations from a variety of cultures and religions. Lessons are calm, predictable, and supported with visuals, symbols, and AAC to help every child understand and take part.
Our staff use evidence‑based approaches, including AET strategies, Intensive Interaction, and sensory integration, to help pupils engage at their own level. Therapists work alongside teachers to ensure pupils’ physical, sensory, and communication needs are fully supported.
Progress is monitored through specialist assessment tools, personalised targets, and EHCP outcomes. We look closely at how pupils communicate, participate, explore, and respond over time.
RE at Park Lane helps pupils develop a sense of identity, emotional understanding, and awareness of the world around them. It supports communication, social interaction, and wellbeing, giving every learner the chance to experience success and enjoy shared moments of celebration.
