Jodrell Class

Our autumn term topic is called 'Super Stars'. We are all so excited to be learning about people who help us including school staff and families.

English

Our stories this term will be linked to our learning and every two to three weeks we will be introduced to a new book linked to a new topic. We will learn through our senses using a total communication approach (symbols, signing and verbal language) and most importantly, we will have a lot of fun!

Our books this term are:

Me and My Family Tree: Amazon.co.uk: Joan Sweeney, Emma Trithart: 9781524768515: Books

We will learn these books through exploration of language, identifying settings, answering blank levels questions and creating sentences using colourful semantics.

As well as our books, we will be learning some other text types this term including shape poetry, posters and religious texts such as The Nativity.

We do 'Look and Listen' three times a week, learn a core word of the week and with a total communication approach in the classroom, we are using language all day, every day.

Maths

This term in maths, we will be learning all about numbers up to 10 (and beyond if we understand this), finding one more or one less, looking at patterns, categorising objects by shape and size and learning about 2D shapes. We will learn through songs, games, practical and written activities and as always, we will use a total communication approach. Maths is also used throughout the day such as counting snacks, days of the week and many more.

Community

In community, this term, we are going to be learning about ourselves, people who help us, family trees, where we live and comparing this to somewhere else (such as an African huts, Igloos and Stilt houses), seasonal changes, The Nativity and Christmas.

Individuality

In PE, we will start by doing gymnastics, learning how to move and balance as well as moving with more co-ordination. We will then learn about ball skills and how to more with a ball and link our learning to our Christmas production.

In RSHE, we will start by learning about different emotions that we might feel, the calming strategies we might use to support ourselves, why we need to look after our bodies, people who help us, how to keep ourselves safe, healthy food choices and likes/preferences. We will also use Zones of Regulation all day to support our pupils to manage their emotions.

In DT, we will learn about our favourite recipes, make some sweet and savoury dishes as well as creating a class recipe book.
