Autumn 2026: Superstars

This term, LKS2 will be exploring our exciting ‘Superstars’ topic. Through a range of practical, sensory and engaging activities, pupils will develop their knowledge, independence and confidence while learning about themselves, others and the world around them.

📚 English

In English, we will enjoy a range of sensory stories, including Super Duck, Ten Little Superheroes and Ten Little Monsters. We will develop our listening, communication and comprehension skills by joining in with stories, talking about characters and events, answering questions and sharing our favourite parts of books. We will also explore poetry and songs and begin to develop our writing skills through activities such as creating autobiographies, biographies and character descriptions. Pupils will continue to work towards their individual reading and writing targets.

🔢 Maths

Our maths learning will focus on developing secure number skills alongside practical mathematics. We will practise counting, recognising and representing numbers, comparing quantities, addition and subtraction, and number bonds to 10. We will also develop our understanding of money, time, position and direction. Pupils will have opportunities to use these skills in meaningful situations, including following routes, using maps, programming Bee-Bots and taking part in a class shop.

🎨 Creativity

Creativity this term will link closely to our ‘Superstars’ theme. We will explore patterns and printing, designing our own superheroes, decorating masks and creating backgrounds for a class comic project. As we move towards Christmas, we will develop our musical skills by creating rhythms and beats using everyday objects and instruments. We will also create our own wrapping paper and Christmas cards using printing techniques we have practised.

🌍 Community

In Community, we will learn more about the United Kingdom, identifying it on maps and globes and exploring the countries that make up the UK. We will also find out about London and learn about important people from the past, including the Royal Family. Pupils will explore their own family trees and begin to understand how families are connected across generations.

🔬 Challenge

Our Challenge sessions will encourage pupils to explore the world around them through practical science and computing activities. We will learn about parts of the human body, magnets, healthy foods and the seasons. We will also explore how technology can be used for different purposes and develop our ability to interact with technology through practical activities and games.

🏃 Individuality

In PE, pupils will develop their movement, coordination, balance and cooperation. We will practise fundamental movement skills, explore gymnastics through partner balances and develop skills for invasion games, including moving with and without a ball.

In PSHE, we will focus on emotions, wellbeing and relationships. Pupils will learn to recognise different emotions, explore strategies for managing feelings and understand that other people may feel differently from them. During the second half of the term, we will explore physical health, being active, kindness and how our actions can make others feel.

In Life skills, we will be developing independence. Pupils will practise navigating their classroom and school, taking care of their belongings and developing dressing skills such as using zips, buttons and putting on their shoes. Later in the term, we will develop practical life skills including food safety, using a knife safely, recognising healthy and unhealthy foods, making a salad and following personal hygiene routines.

Throughout the term, pupils will have regular opportunities to practise their individual targets through personalised learning activities, helping them to build confidence, independence and celebrate their own progress.

Trips

This year we will be going on a community trip weekly, this will be either to the park or to the shop to build on the pupils personal learning goals. We will also be going on our termly trip focused on our 'superstars' topic which is TBC.
