Welcome to our class overview for the term. Below you’ll find a clear summary of what we are learning across all areas of the curriculum, along with the exciting visits we have planned. Our theme this term is 'Superstars'.

Maths

We'll be building number confidence step by step across the term:

Recognise numerals to 10
Say "one more" and "one less"
Begin reading and writing numerals to 10
Count reliably from 1 to 20
Place numbers 1–20 in order
Count to/across 50 forwards and backwards
Count to/across 100 forwards and backwards

English

We'll be exploring stories, poetry and non-fiction through a range of engaging texts:

The Smartest Giant in Town – reading, retelling, colourful semantics and evaluation
The Dot – reading, retelling, colourful semantics and evaluation
Simile poetry – exploring, writing together, then independent writing
Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World (Kate Pankhurst) – fact file research and writing

Individuality

Children will learn about making choices that support health and wellbeing, how physical and mental health are linked, recognising what's normal versus a health concern and how to seek help, trying new ways to be active, key facts about medicines, and identifying and managing hazards at home.

Community

Children will explore the wider world through topics such as the Old and New Testament, the meaning of bracelets, a world map cloth, and the changing autumn weather, including wind, cold and rain.

Creativity

Inspired by musician Keith Terry, children will explore body sounds and rhythm, developing control, tempo and responding to cues, copying and creating patterns, exploring pitch, and building up to reading and performing simple musical notation.

Challenge

Children will build practical independence through cooking and real-life tasks, starting with a tasting assessment and following a recipe with support, before working towards preparing and presenting a recipe by themselves. The term includes an end of unit assessment, a café visit, and an activity matching baby animals to their mothers.

Life Skills

Each week has a practical focus: getting dressed (coats, zips and buttons), road safety, personal hygiene, staying safe with trusted adults and strangers, telling the time and daily routines, money and shopping, and making healthy food choices.
