Merlin 2026 - 2027
Welcome to our class overview for this half term. Below you’ll find a clear summary of what we are learning across the curriculum, along with the exciting visits we have planned. Our theme is ‘Superstars’.
Maths
We’ll start by identifying one more and one less up to 100, then move on to handling data: representing data with pictures, answering yes/no questions, using tally marks, creating pictograms and answering questions about data.
English
We’ll be exploring a range of texts and writing about them:
- Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World (Kate Pankhurst) – fact files
- Little People, Big Dreams: David Attenborough – biography
- Immi’s Gift (Karin Littlewood)
- The Stickman (Julia Donaldson)
Individuality
Children will learn to identify hazards at home and manage risk, and take part in desensitisation and Zones of Regulation sessions. In PE, we will work on movement, control and coordination, ball skills including throwing and catching, and a Christmas dance.
Community
Children will explore autumn and cold weather, learn about important people from the past, and look at how everyday objects have changed over time.
Creativity
Children will explore the artwork of Picasso, paint using fruit as inspiration, create superhero outfits and make and write a Christmas card.
Challenge
Linked to our trip to Tatton Park Farm, children will learn how animals and humans grow, why healthy food and exercise matter, and how animals are cared for.
Life Skills
Our focus is road safety: stopping, looking and listening at the kerb, pelican and puffin crossings, zebra crossings and a supervised community walk. We’ll then move on to using the bus, paying for items with coins and making a simple snack.
Careers
Each week we learn about a different job: postman, nurse, teacher/teaching assistant, bus driver, shop assistant, builder and dentist.

Swimming
Swimming takes place every Wednesday at the Leisure Centre. Please ensure your child has their full swimming kit in school on Wednesdays.
