Lesson: PSHE and citizenship
Spiritual Development
Pupils are encouraged to reflect on values such as kindness, care and responsibility through learning about Marbles and considering the needs of living things. The reflection time and school prayer provide opportunities for pupils to develop self-awareness, wonder and appreciation of others, supporting their spiritual development.
Moral Development
The assembly promotes moral understanding by helping pupils recognise the importance of caring for animals and treating others with kindness and respect. Discussions about what pets need and how to look after them encourage pupils to consider right and wrong choices and understand the impact of their actions on others.
Social Development
Pupils develop social skills through participation in assembly discussions, sharing experiences of their own pets, celebrating achievements through certificates and joining in with the school choir. These activities foster communication, cooperation, confidence and a sense of belonging within the school community.
Cultural Development
The assembly promotes an inclusive school culture where achievement, participation and respect for others are valued and celebrated. Coming together as a whole school for singing, celebration and reflection helps pupils understand and participate in shared traditions and community experiences.
Accessibility for a Special School
The assembly is designed to be accessible for pupils with a wide range of needs through the use of visual supports, photographs, interactive questioning and a real-life focus on caring for a school pet. These approaches enable pupils to engage meaningfully with SMSC themes and make connections to their own experiences.
Pupils from 6th form 2 helped to introduce the assembly and took Marbles around to meet all the pupils and remind them that they can all spend time with him to help keep them calm and practice being kind.
